Featured Wedding Venue – St Luke’s Bombed Out Church

Churches always have amazing architecture, and have a real sense of occasion about them, but the rules that come along with that can make them a little restrictive. A converted church solves that problem. You get the impressive building with modern values and licensing laws ?

I love St Luke’s Bombed Out Church – it is not your typical city centre wedding venue that’s for sure! It’s got history, it’s got uniqueness (is that even a word?) by the truck load and the team there are awesome too! I spoke to Louise, the Wedding Coordinator at the Bombed Out Church to find out a bit more about it and this is what she had to say…

  1. How would you describe the vibe of The Bombed Out Church?
St Luke’s Bombed Out Church is a Grade II* listed building which has been preserved to maintain its stunning architecture, offering a truly unique, intimate and serene setting for your special day.
  2. What makes The Bombed Out Church stand out from other wedding venues?
St Luke’s Church, known locally as the ‘Bombed Out Church’, suffered catastrophic damage during the May Blitz of 1941, leaving only its external masonry standing. Today, the church has become an iconic, multipurpose venue, surrounded by extraordinary architecture, with open air celestial views whilst maintaining privacy within its walls. As a Grade II* listed building, the church also makes a tremendous contribution to Liverpool’s heritage.
  1. On the scale of “Completely DIY” to “Everything Done For Them”, where is The Bombed Out Church?
We know that every wedding is bespoke, so whilst we provide the iconic venue, you have the freedom to fill our blank canvas by choosing your desired florist, celebrant, entertainment and more, as we understand that those personal touches are what will make your day that much more memorable.
  2. Does The Bombed Out Church have a civil ceremony licence?
Currently we do not. You will need to have the “legal bit” done beforehand at a Church or registry office. Although, most of our couples choose to use the services of a Celebrant and do their vows, readings or similar on our grounds.
  3. Is The Bombed Out Church suitable for wet, winter weddings?
As we are a multipurpose venue, we don’t have our Wedding Reception Marquee up during the winter months, this is something we can look into providing, on request.During the months our Wedding Reception Marquee is up, whatever the weather, your guests will be sheltered come rain or shine. We also offer the option of our chancel roof for those looking to hold only their ceremony with us, which will ensure yourselves and your guests are kept dry during your wedding.
  1. Do you offer accommodation?
We don’t, however we are located in the heart of Liverpool city centre, meaning there are endless options of local hotels for you and your guests to choose from.
  2. What’s The Bombed Out Church’s capacity?
80 – 100 are our recommended numbers for the ceremony, for the evening we’d advise up to 130. No number is too small though!
  3. Is The Bombed Out Church live music friendly?
We highly recommend live music and bands, they create such a great atmosphere!Any music will need to finish by 11pm.Last orders are 11pm.
