Congratulations Katherine & Kieran!
My day started at George Allen Hairdressing where Katherine, her Mum and Bridesmaids were getting their hair done. There was a lovely vibe in the hairdressers, it was calm but there was a definite buzz in the air. Everyone’s hair looked absolutely beautiful, I think you see Katherine liked hers from her reaction. Once they were finished, I headed over to Little Mollington Hall (a stunning B&B just across the road from Crabwall Manor) to hang out with Kieran and his groomsmen for a bit. Once the guys were all dressed and had had some Champagne, we did a few quick group shots before I went to Katherine’s parents house for more of the same with the girls… Although they drank theirs from Champagne flutes. It wasn’t long before it was time to make our move for Crabwall Manor.
After a lovely ceremony, (which I caught at least three people wiping away tears) it was time for congratulations & drinks on the lawn – while the kids tried to burn off some of their pent up energy. Katherine & Kieran’s wedding was big on fun and I had an absolute ball documenting it. In the evening there was a chocolate fountain, loads of inflatable selfie props and some awesome dancing. Everyone was super nice and a great laugh – you know it’s been a good wedding when you get home and you’re still wearing your party hat!
I knew even before I became a professional wedding photographer that I was going to have a documentary approach to wedding photography. I didn’t want to be posing people or telling them what to do. I didn’t want to be creating contrived images or forcing couples to conform to my vision of their wedding. What I wanted to do was photograph a wedding and capture all the stuff that you can’t see… Personality & emotion. When you look at my photography you won’t see posed portraits, even the one of Katherine & Kieran kissing under the tree (below) wasn’t posed – we just went for a walk. You won’t see any dramatic flash or smoke grenades either. But hopefully you will see Katherine & Kieran. Because that’s what I see.
Hang on… Obviously you’ll see them, they are the bride & groom. What I mean is you’ll be able to see the real Katherine & Kieran. The shot where Katherine’s sat on Kieran’s knee – I bet all of their friends have seen him look at her like that before. The photo of them hugging with their heads together at the end of the ceremony… And the last one of their first dance. And laughing together outside in the courtyard. What I’m trying to say is I think these guys make a lovely couple, are crazy head over heels in love and I hope you can see that in my photography.
