Upon entering the large Dutch Barn, it’s hard not to notice the clever use of natural materials that come together to create a beautifully warm, romantic space. Look above and your eyes will be drawn into a stunning canopy of twinkling fairy lights. It’s already easy to see how this venue is a wedding photographer’s dream.
After speaking to Jenny via video chat earlier in the week, I knew this was going to be a great day and was thrilled to be chosen as their wedding photographer.
Alcumlow Wedding Barn makes for a stunning wedding venue at any time of the year. Not only can you make use of the exclusive use barn area, but couples can also opt to an outdoor ceremony in their ‘White House’. This spot is truly unique, it’s frame is styled to look like a little white wedding chapel, complete with flower filled window boxes, making for absolutely stunning candid shots as the ceremony itself takes place.
Jenny had warned me of the large bridal party during our video chat, so it was great to be able to jump in from the word go and get snapping away as the Bride, along with her excited bridesmaids got on with preparations. For me this included getting some rather dashing pictures of the couple’s dog who also attended the day in an extremely smart doggie bow-tie! Because, did I mention, that Alcumlow Wedding Barn is also a dog friendly wedding venue?
After a touching ceremony, it was time for the bridal party and guests to head outside as Husband and Wife for the first time in a cascade of confetti. While I spent time capturing memories of the day, guests were treated to some fabulous drinks and canapés in the sunshine. Jenny’s jaw dropping wedding dress took centre stage as I watched the pair work their way around friends and family, full of congratulations and complimentary words.
Back inside the gloriously decorated venue, it was time for speeches. One of the most touching events of the day was Jenny’s father becoming so overwhelmed with emotion during his speech about his Daughter and new Son in law, that one of Jenny’s young flower girls had to jump into action and continue the remainder of the speech! I thought this was testament to what a tight knit group of family and friends Jenny and Josh have.
For the wedding breakfast, Jenny and Josh opted for an informal BBQ style dinner, perfectly in keeping with the wedding venue itself. Afterwards, their live band, The Gillan Edgar Band, kicked off the party by playing the couple’s first dance song. As a wedding photographer, I can tell you that having your first dance played by a live band is a sure fire way to capture some beautiful shots and ensure that your wedding party are on the dance floor immediately.
