When it comes to planning your perfect wedding, finding the right venue is essential, and Garthmyl Hall is a great place to start! Nestled in the rolling hills and lush countryside of Mid-Wales, this 18th-century exclusive hire Georgian Grade II Listed house offers a blend of luxury, elegance, and timeless country charm.

Whether you are planning a grand celebration or an intimate gathering, Garthmyl Hall provides a stunning location for your wedding. Its beautifully restored interiors, luxury accommodation, stunning views and “secret” walled garden ensure your wedding at Garthmyl Hall will be a day to remember.

I was super excited about photographing Becky & Danny’s wedding for two main reasons… Firstly, I photographed Danny’s brother’s wedding back in 2021 and that was a cracker of a day. And secondly because Garthmyl Hall had been on my list of “really want to photograph at” venues for a long time! Becky & Danny’s wedding did not disappoint on either count. Garthmyl Hall has jumped straight onto my favourite wedding venues list and I had the best time hanging out with Becky, Danny as well as all of their friends and family.

So, without further ado, let’s crack on, take a look at some wedding pics and find out how they planned their day…

Planning a Garthmyl Hall Wedding – Becky & Danny

  1. Can you tell everyone a little about yourself?
We’re Becky and Danny and we’ve been together for 4 years. Becky’s a primary school teacher and Danny’s an accountant. We met in the modern way via Tinder. Very much a ‘Rona romance’ and made it out the other side of the pandemic!
  2. What about the proposal?
Danny asked Becky on a gorgeous sunny day whilst we were away in Wales. We stayed in Beddgelert but had gone to Criccieth beach for the day. Where Danny proposed at sunset! It was such a surprise for me (Becky) I genuinely didn’t suspect anything and was blown away by all his planning. He even asked my mum’s, dad’s and big brother’s permission.
  1. How long were you engaged before getting married?
We were engaged for 2 years and pretty much began planning straight away. We knew we didn’t want to wait too long before becoming husband and wife! We also knew we wanted a location in Wales.
  2. What were you most looking forward to about your wedding?
Celebrating our love with our family and friends! We also wanted to draw out a little by having the entire weekend as a celebration!
  3. If you were to describe your wedding in two or three words, what would they be?
We would describe our wedding as romantic, picturesque, incredible, memorable (did we have to limit it to 3?!) I could go on and on…
  4. Where did you find inspiration when planning your wedding?
I took a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and other forms of social media. I also took inspiration from family and friends and their ideas.
  5. Did you do anything to make your wedding unique to you or your story as a couple?
We had lots of little details that made our wedding personal… the table names for example were all coves and beaches we have visited and loved. The singer was one we had seen in Liverpool and loved his style. The music played was all personal to us too. We loved hand making the name cards and mirrors to suit our story and our wedding perfectly. The newspapers were also something unique I felt.
  6. Did you enjoy the planning process?
Honestly, I really did! And the best part was seeing it all come together I could never have imagined just how well it would all work and see my vision become a reality and it didn’t cost the earth either! My advice is trust the process! Don’t doubt the vision and have faith it’ll all work out.
  1. How did you choose your wedding venue?
After looking at around 4 other venues, we came across Garthmyl Hall by chance and my gosh we are so glad we did! From there we found suppliers using their website as we thought it would be easier if we used people who had worked with the venue before.
  2. What advice would you give to couples looking for a wedding venue?
It will feel right when it’s right! I (Becky) wanted to find the right one straight away and I felt deflated when I didn’t but… when we found Garthmyl it was love at first sight!
  1. What was your biggest worry or concern when choosing a photographer?
We really wanted someone relaxed and someone who wouldn’t make us miss out on our day just for the sake of photos. We wanted someone who would fit in with our wedding party and have a good time with us whilst capturing the day too.
  2. What advice would you give to couples who are looking for a photographer?
Again, don’t rush the process! Definitely meet with them, or FaceTime them and get a feel for them as you spend a large portion of your day with your photographer if the chemistry, so to speak, isn’t there then it may not be right for you!
  3. What was the best thing you spent money on for your wedding?
Not sure we could pick just 1 but to list a few, photographer, singer, news papers, food!
  4. Would you like to give a shout out to anyone in particular?
Chris Morse!!! What a wonderful day we had with him so relaxed and easy, he genuinely is a guest with a camera!

The venue staff – Lucieanne and Darren were amazing from the Garthmyl team nothing was ever to big or to small they were on hand every minute we were there!
  1. Where did you get ready?
I got ready in the Honeymoon suite and Danny got ready in the Boathouse. I felt so relaxed yet excited all at the same time, it was a wonderful morning!
  2. How did you feel when you saw each other for the first time?
I could have burst with the amount of love I felt for Danny in that moment.
  3. Was there any part of the day you were particularly nervous about?
Walking down the aisle felt like such a daunting task but after the perfect morning (and a cheeky cheeky tequila rose shot) I felt ready to do it! Afterwards I just felt joy and loved.
  4. Did you or Becky plan any surprises for each other? If so, tell us all about it!
We both did actually! I got Danny a watch and wrote him a card and he got me a pearl necklace with a card – he reduced me to tears!
  5. Did you break any wedding “traditions” or go against the norm?
We didn’t have the standard traditional top table, we each chose two people we wanted next to us and it worked beautifully.
  6. What was your favourite part of your day?
Our most favourite part of our day was dancing under the tree to our guitarist/ singer. It was unplanned and definitely not staged it was just us in the moment dancing to one of Danny’s favourite songs.
  1. And finally… Any words of wedding planning wisdom?
Trust and enjoy the planning process, your dream will come together!! Do what you guys want to do, it’s your day! Oh, keep the bride and groom on the dance floor all night your guests will follow! And choose a venue who allow you to do anything (within reason) Garthmyl never put a lid on what we could do and we will forever be grateful!

Congratulations & Thank Yous!

I’d like to say a massive congratulations to Becky & Dan as well as a huge thank you for choosing me to photograph their wedding and sharing your story with us. There’s a lot of great advice in there! I also have to give a virtual high five to all the other suppliers involved in making their day so perfect…

  • Surprise Proposal on Manchester’s Merchant’s Bridge
The plan was simple, “go for a walk along the canals to a specific spot from our first date, and then propose.” However, there is magic in simplicity, because this was one hell of a proposal! After a few messages and exchanged streetview screenshots the plan was set. […]
