Welcome to Part Two of Gemma & Chris’ wedding. I didn’t mention this in Part One but this series of posts is a little experiment for me. I’m attempting to tell their wedding story in less than 70 photographs. I’ve chosen to do this for a few reasons, the first is: that’s roughly how many images fit comfortably into an album without adding additional pages. And secondly, to illustrate that by using documentary style of wedding photography, (without posing people or trying to manipulate the day) anyone who looks at the photos can imagine what the day was like. So the challenge is to convey the feeling and emotion of the day in less than 70 images – and potentially to people who weren’t even at the wedding. Please feel free to let me know how I do!
Anyway, here’s part two – ceremony to the speeches. I’m not a religious person, but I do enjoy a church wedding. The stained glass windows and the architecture can make some dramatic photographs, however on a dark day they can be really tricky to photograph in. Despite the weather outside the Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoghton, Lancashire, was surprisingly bright – the stained glass windows looked amazing! After a beautiful ceremony Gemma & Chris were congratulated by their guests as they left before braving the rain outside. Luckily, I had a few spare umbrellas in the car to handout to unprepared guests! A short drive down the motorway and we arrive at The Villa, Wrea Green, the sun shone for a few minutes before giving way to more drizzle.
I particularly like the photo of Chris & Gemma walking down the aisle, where Chris is giving it the international gesture for “get in there”! Chris making a joke of sliding down the banister is another favourite, mostly for how much of his character it shows.
One perk of being a wedding photographer is listening to all the speeches. Gemma’s father told some really good “Dad jokes”, Chris made a touching speech about his new wife and the Best Man gave Chris what for (along with a lot of kind words) as to be expected.
Hopefully, these images tell the story for this chapter of the day… Next up is the wedding party of the year!
