As a professional wedding photographer, I’m sure I’m meant to remain impartial, but I can’t help it… Outdoor weddings are my absolute favourite type of wedding to photograph.
One of the major plus points for me is freedom of movement – especially at the moment when restrictions mean that I’m banished to the back of the room and not allowed to move. Outside I can move around freely to get the best angles and variety of photos.
The other major benefit to an outdoor wedding is the light, that gorgeous light. It doesn’t matter what time of day or year, the light outside is almost always going to be more beautiful than the light inside. For example, in these photos, you can see how the light and colours change as the sun comes out from behind the clouds. It’s gorgeous and really does help to show the atmosphere of the day.
Just like almost every other couple who had planned to get married in 2021 or 2022, this wasn’t Christian & Leah’s original wedding plan. But they stuck with their date, rolled with the restrictions and it all worked out rather beautifully in the end. However, their wedding isn’t where this story begins…
Surprise Proposal Photography
I first spoke to Christian way back in April 2019 before he was engaged. I also secretly photograph wedding proposals, and that’s why he was getting in touch! The plan was simple, they would take their two puppies for a walk around one of their favourite parks. He would then find a quiet spot and pop the question! All while I secretly took photographs of them 😬 Obviously she said YES!
Fast forward almost 2 years exactly and now it’s time for me to photograph their wedding! Their original venue was unable to hold their wedding due to the current restrictions, which was a real shame. However, when I heard the Christian & Leah were having an outdoor ceremony at The Mere Resort, in Cheshire, it definitely put a smile on my face – and even more so when I saw the weather forecast!
