Congratulations to the Brand New, Mr & Mrs Harrington!
Well, what a day! Nic & Mark got married on Friday 13th, it might be unlucky for some – but not these guys! In fact, you could say it was lucky for them because the church didn’t burn down…
I had so much fun documenting their wedding. I arrived to a warm welcome and the offer of a bacon butty, which I’ll be honest is probably the best sort of welcome. Weddings are my “diet” days, so I politely declined – gotta stay nimble! Nic’s Dad, Paul was in the garden cooking the bacon on the BBQ, not because it was a nice day, but to save the smell getting into the dresses – great idea! It was bacon butty’s and orange juice for breakfast because they’d accidentally drank all the bubbles the night before – I like this family!
The wedding car was parked outside, everyone was looking gorgeous, the sun was shining and we’re just about ready to go when Nic’s Dad quietly explains to me that there’s been a fire at the church. They think it’s going to be ok, but are waiting for final confirmation… What the what! Everything was fine, it was the organ that had caught fire so the music was played on a keyboard but everything was absolutely fine. See, told you it was lucky for them! Anyway, I arrive just as the fire brigade are leaving. The kids in the school across the road had quite a show, and started singing “here comes the bride” as Nic walked into the church – super cute. Although with all that excitement I did feel a bit sorry for their teachers…
After that minor hic-cup the day went exactly to plan… A beautiful ceremony (with one or two “holy fire” jokes thrown in for good measure) was followed by plenty of congratulating and confetti throwing outside the church before we headed off to the Grosvenor Hotel in Pulford. But there’ll be more about that in part two…
